Ethmoidal refers to structures or conditions related to the ethmoid bone. The ethmoid bone is a complex, lightweight bone located at the base of the skull, between the eye sockets. It forms part of the nasal cavity, the orbits (eye sockets), and the anterior cranial fossa. Its spongy, porous structure contains numerous small air cells called ethmoidal cells, which contribute to the paranasal sinuses.

Ethmoidal sinusitis is an inflammation of the ethmoidal sinuses, which can cause pain and pressure in the forehead, around the eyes, and at the bridge of the nose. Symptoms may include nasal congestion, discharge, and a reduced sense of smell. Ethmoidal fractures can occur due to trauma to the face or head and can affect vision, smell, and the integrity of the skull base.

The ethmoid bone plays a crucial role in olfaction, housing the olfactory epithelium responsible for detecting smells. Its delicate structure makes it susceptible to injury, and ethmoidal complications can sometimes impact neighboring structures, including the brain and the eyes. Medical imaging techniques such as CT scans are often used to visualize the ethmoid bone and diagnose related conditions.
