Detrusortrykk refers to the pressure within the urinary bladder when it is filling and emptying. Specifically, it is the pressure generated by the detrusor muscle, the smooth muscle that forms the wall of the bladder. During the filling phase of the micturition cycle, the detrusor muscle relaxes to accommodate increasing volumes of urine, and the detrusor pressure remains low. As the bladder approaches its filling limit, sensory signals trigger the micturition reflex. This reflex causes the detrusor muscle to contract, increasing the detrusor pressure and initiating the expulsion of urine from the bladder. Measuring detrusor pressure is typically done through urodynamic studies, a set of tests that evaluate bladder function. These measurements are crucial for diagnosing and managing various lower urinary tract dysfunctions, such as overactive bladder, stress urinary incontinence, and bladder outlet obstruction. Abnormal detrusor pressure patterns can indicate underlying conditions affecting bladder control and voiding efficiency.
