Csvegyeségek, often abbreviated as CSV, are a simple file format used for storing tabular data, such as that in a spreadsheet or database. The name comes from Comma Separated Values, which is the most common delimiter used, though other delimiters like tabs or semicolons are also employed. Each line in a CSV file represents a row of data, and within each line, values are separated by the chosen delimiter. Typically, the first line of a CSV file contains the headers or names of the columns, which describe the data in subsequent rows.

CSV files are widely used due to their simplicity and human-readability. They are easily generated by spreadsheet programs like Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and LibreOffice Calc, and can also be created and parsed by most programming languages. This makes them an excellent format for data exchange between different applications and systems. For instance, you might export data from a database into a CSV file to import it into a different application for analysis or visualization.

Despite their ubiquity, CSV files have some limitations. They do not inherently support data types like numbers, dates, or booleans; all values are treated as plain text. This can lead to issues if not handled carefully during data import. Furthermore, CSV files do not have a standardized way to represent complex data structures, such as nested data or relationships between tables. Special characters within data fields, such as commas or newlines, must be handled properly, usually by enclosing the field in quotation marks, to avoid corrupting the file structure.
