A congruent triangle is a triangle that is an exact copy of another triangle. This means that all three corresponding sides and all three corresponding angles are equal in measure. If two triangles are congruent, they can be superimposed on each other perfectly, meaning they have the same size and shape.

There are several ways to determine if two triangles are congruent without having to measure all six parts (three sides and three angles). These are known as triangle congruence postulates and theorems. The most common ones are: Side-Side-Side (SSS), Side-Angle-Side (SAS), Angle-Side-Angle (ASA), and Angle-Angle-Side (AAS). For right triangles, the Hypotenuse-Leg (HL) theorem is also used.

The SSS postulate states that if three sides of one triangle are congruent to the three corresponding sides of another triangle, then the two triangles are congruent. The SAS postulate states that if two sides and the included angle (the angle between the two sides) of one triangle are congruent to two sides and the included angle of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent.

The ASA postulate states that if two angles and the included side (the side between the two angles) of one triangle are congruent to two angles and the included side of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent. The AAS theorem states that if two angles and a non-included side of one triangle are congruent to the corresponding two angles and non-included side of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent.

Congruent triangles are a fundamental concept in geometry and are used to prove many other geometric theorems and solve problems involving shapes and measurements.
