Broskförbindelse, also known as synchondrosis in English, refers to a type of joint where bones are joined together by cartilage. Specifically, these are cartilaginous joints where hyaline cartilage connects the bones. This type of joint is typically immovable or only slightly movable.

Broskförbindelse are often found in areas where bones are growing or where rigidity is important. A common example is the epiphyseal plate, or growth plate, found in long bones during childhood and adolescence. This plate of hyaline cartilage allows for bone lengthening. Once growth is complete, the hyaline cartilage ossifies, and the epiphyseal plate fuses, becoming a synostosis (a bony joint).

Another example of a broskförbindelse is the joint between the first rib and the sternum. While most sternocostal joints are synovial, the first one is cartilaginous. These joints play a role in the structural integrity of the skeleton and can be a site of ossification over time. The term emphasizes the cartilaginous nature of the union between bony structures.
