bråter

Bräter is a small community situated in the district of Albstadt in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The municipality lies in the upper valley of the Nagold River, roughly 15 kilometres west of Albshausen and 45 kilometres southeast of the city of Stuttgart. It is part of the administrative region of Stuttgart.

The first documentary mention of Bräter dates back to the year 1287, when it was recorded as a settlement under the ownership of the Lords of Hohenberg. During the late Middle Ages the village developed as a modest agricultural hub. In the 19th century a coal mining operation began at the nearby Bräunwald, which provided employment for many residents until the mine was closed in the early 20th century. The town was officially incorporated into the Free State of Württemberg in 1918 and later became part of Baden-Württemberg after the reorganization of German states in 1952.

Today Bräter is known primarily for its small-scale manufacturing and service industries. A notable local enterprise is the production of porridge called “Bräterkorn” that has become a regional specialty. The community also supports several small craft workshops and a cooperatives of local farmers who supply regional markets.

Bräter is accessible by regional road networks, including the B (Bundesstraße) 399 and the D276, and is served by a local train station on the Georgsfeld Railway line which connects the town to larger centres such as Ulm and Pforzheim. The surrounding area offers hiking and cycling routes in the Upper Swabian Jura and is home to various natural and cultural landmarks that illustrate the region’s historical development.
