baroceptor
A baroreceptor is a type of mechanoreceptor located in the walls of blood vessels, specifically in the carotid sinuses and aortic arch. These receptors are sensitive to changes in arterial blood pressure. When blood pressure rises, the walls of these vessels stretch, activating the baroreceptors. Conversely, when blood pressure falls, the vessel walls relax, decreasing the firing rate of the baroreceptors.
This sensory information is transmitted via afferent nerves to the brainstem, primarily the medulla oblongata. In
This baroreceptor reflex is a crucial short-term mechanism for regulating blood pressure and ensuring adequate blood
