avoimampi

Avoimampi is a former municipality in Finland. It was a part of the Region of Ostrobotnia in the Ostrobotnia-Hjämtland Region. The municipality had a total area of 266.8 square kilometers and a population of 854 inhabitants at the end of 2009. On January 1, 2010, Avoimampi merged with the municipality of Kruunupyy to form the municipality Kruunupyy with a new name, Kruunupyy.

The municipality of Avoimampi was established in 1917. It started as two separate municipalities, Selkäin and Ylistö, which merged to become Avoimampi. Before this, Selkäin was established in 1868, and Ylistö in 1878. A person from Avoimampi was known as "Avoinmepiljäisen" (Avoinmepijäisen).

The languages spoken in the area included Finnish and Swedish. Prior to the 20th century, Swedish was the dominating language, however the number of Finnish speakers grew significantly in the early 20th century and surpassed the number of Swedish speakers in the latter half of the 20th century. Avoimampi's location within the.bizoon geographical area, which included parts of the Kälviuning municipality and others, is relevant to understanding this region's settlement, landscape, and agriculture.
