Anhållen is a Swedish legal term that translates to "detained" or "taken into custody." It refers to a situation where a person is deprived of their liberty by law enforcement officers. This is typically done when there is probable cause to believe the person has committed a crime. An anhållen is not yet formally charged with a crime, but they are held by the authorities for further investigation.

The purpose of an anhållen status is to allow the police to conduct necessary investigative actions, such as questioning the suspect, gathering evidence, and preventing further criminal activity. The detention period is limited by law. In Sweden, a prosecutor must decide whether to keep the person detained or release them within a specific timeframe, usually 72 hours from the time of apprehension. If the prosecutor finds sufficient grounds, they may request that the person be placed in remand custody (häktad), which requires a court order.

During the period of anhållen, the individual has certain rights, including the right to legal counsel and the right to be informed of the reasons for their detention.
