Alleeliyhdistelmät refer to the specific combination of alleles an individual possesses for a particular gene or set of genes. Alleles are different versions of the same gene. For example, a gene for eye color might have an allele for brown eyes and an allele for blue eyes. An individual inherits two alleles for each gene, one from each parent.

The combination of these two alleles determines the individual's genotype for that gene. If an individual has two identical alleles for a gene, they are said to be homozygous for that gene. If they have two different alleles, they are heterozygous. For instance, if the allele for brown eyes is represented by 'B' and the allele for blue eyes by 'b', an individual could be BB (homozygous dominant), Bb (heterozygous), or bb (homozygous recessive).

The resulting phenotype, or observable characteristic, depends on the interaction of these alleles. In cases of complete dominance, one allele (the dominant allele) masks the effect of the other (the recessive allele). In the eye color example, if brown (B) is dominant over blue (b), both BB and Bb genotypes would result in brown eyes, while only bb would result in blue eyes. Incomplete dominance and codominance are other inheritance patterns where the phenotype of heterozygotes differs from either homozygote.

Understanding allelic combinations is fundamental to genetics, explaining patterns of inheritance, genetic variation within populations, and the basis of many inherited traits and disorders.
