Zellwandabschluss

Zellwandabschluss refers to the process by which a plant cell completes the formation of its cell wall, particularly the middle lamella and the primary cell wall, during cytokinesis. Following nuclear division, the cell plate begins to form in the equatorial region of the parent cell. This cell plate is a precursor to the new cell wall, originating from vesicles derived from the Golgi apparatus. These vesicles are rich in pectins and other cell wall materials.

As the cell plate grows outwards from the center towards the existing cell walls of the parent cell, the vesicles fuse together. This fusion establishes a continuous barrier that separates the two daughter cells. The material within the fused vesicles, primarily pectin, forms the middle lamella, which is the outermost layer shared by adjacent plant cells. Following the formation of the middle lamella, each daughter cell then deposits its own primary cell wall on its side of the middle lamella. The primary cell wall is typically thin and flexible, composed mainly of cellulose, hemicellulose, and pectin. The complete Zellwandabschluss ensures the structural integrity and separation of the new daughter cells.
