Yritysrekisterit

Yritysrekisterit are official registers that collect information about companies and other legal entities engaged in economic activity. They serve to document legal existence, support regulatory oversight, enable transparency, and provide up-to-date information to authorities, businesses and the public. In Finland, the primary registers include the Kaupparekisteri (Trade Register) and the Yhteisötietojärjestelmä (YTJ), the national business information system. The Trade Register is maintained by the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH). The YTJ consolidates data from PRH and the Finnish Tax Administration and offers a public online interface for retrieving current information on registered entities.

Typical data in these registries include the registered name and business identity code (Y-tunnus), legal form, registered office address, start date and possible end date, and industry classification (toimiala). They also contain details on governance and ownership (board members, managing directors, owners), share capital, and current status (active, dissolved, in liquidation). Additionally, the registries record filings such as annual accounts, mergers, name changes and changes in ownership, as well as changes in status or registration.

Access and use: Data from the registries is publicly accessible through official channels, such as ytj.fi and PRH’s online services. The registries support due diligence, supplier and partner screening, regulatory compliance, and market analysis. In Finland, basic corporate data is public, although data protection rules apply to sensitive information and to individuals.

Legal basis and scope: The registries operate under Finnish corporate and trade legislation, including the Companies Act and related regulations. Similar business registries exist in other countries, typically maintained by government agencies responsible for company registration and corporate information.
