Viskoosimittari is a Finnish term referring to a viscometer, an instrument used to measure the viscosity of a fluid. Viscosity is a measure of a fluid's resistance to flow. A viscometer quantifies this property, which is crucial in many scientific and industrial applications.

There are several types of viscometers, each utilizing different principles to determine viscosity. Common types include capillary viscometers, rotational viscometers, and vibrational viscometers. Capillary viscometers measure the time it takes for a fluid to flow through a narrow tube of known dimensions. Rotational viscometers measure the torque required to rotate a spindle immersed in the fluid at a constant speed. Vibrational viscometers measure the damping of an oscillating element immersed in the fluid.

The measurement obtained from a viscometer is typically expressed in units of Pascal-seconds (Pa·s) or centipoise (cP), where 1 Pa·s = 1000 cP. Viscosity measurements are essential in industries such as food processing, petroleum, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing, where controlling fluid properties impacts product quality and process efficiency.
