Vetokäynnistys

Vetokäynnistys, also known as a pull start or recoil start, is a common mechanism used to start internal combustion engines, particularly in smaller equipment like lawnmowers, chainsaws, and outboard motors. It operates by the user pulling a rope that is connected to a starter mechanism. This rope is wound around a pulley or a spool, which is attached to a spring-loaded recoil system.

When the starter rope is pulled, it rotates a crankshaft or flywheel, initiating the engine's combustion cycle. The recoil system is designed to quickly retract the rope back into its housing once the engine starts or the pull is released. This retraction is facilitated by a coiled spring that stores energy during the pull and releases it to wind the rope back.

The design of a vetokäynnistys system typically involves a starter grip or handle attached to the end of the rope, a rope guide, a pulley or spool, a recoil spring, and a ratchet or dog mechanism that engages with the engine's crankshaft. This engagement allows the pulling force to be transferred to the engine. While simple and effective for many applications, the force required to start the engine can vary depending on its size and compression.
