Valonhäviö

Valonhäviö refers to the loss of light intensity as it travels through a medium or encounters obstacles. This phenomenon is a fundamental aspect of optics and plays a significant role in various natural and artificial processes.

There are several mechanisms that contribute to valonhäviö. Absorption is one of the primary causes, where the energy of light photons is converted into other forms of energy, such as heat, by the particles within the medium. Scattering is another important factor, where light is deflected in multiple directions by particles or irregularities in the medium, reducing the amount of light that continues in its original path. Reflection also contributes to valonhäviö, as a portion of the incident light is bounced back from a surface.
