Ubiquitinimolekyyleillä
Ubiquitinimolekyyleillä is a Finnish term referring to molecules of ubiquitin. Ubiquitin is a small, highly conserved protein found in almost all eukaryotic organisms. Its primary and most well-known function is to act as a tag for protein degradation. When a protein is targeted for destruction, ubiquitin molecules are covalently attached to it in a process called ubiquitination. This "tag" is recognized by the proteasome, a large protein complex that unfolds and breaks down the tagged protein into smaller peptides.
Beyond protein degradation, ubiquitination plays a crucial role in regulating a wide array of cellular processes.
