URIsURNs refers to Uniform Resource Identifiers and Uniform Resource Names. URIs are a fundamental concept on the internet and other systems, serving as a way to identify resources. A URI can be a locator, a name, or both. The most common type of URI is a URL, which stands for Uniform Resource Locator. URLs not only identify a resource but also specify how to access it, typically through a network protocol like HTTP.

URNs, on the other hand, are a specific type of URI that aims to provide a persistent, location-independent identification for a resource. The idea is that a URN should uniquely identify something, regardless of where it is currently located or how it can be accessed. For example, a book's ISBN is a URN. It identifies the book uniquely, but doesn't tell you where to find a copy.

In essence, all URNs are URIs, but not all URIs are URNs. URIs are the broader category, encompassing both locators (like URLs) and names (like URNs). The distinction is important for understanding how information is referenced and managed in networked environments.
