Töötuskindlustusmaksude
Töötuskindlustusmaksed are contributions paid by both employers and employees in Estonia to fund the unemployment insurance system. This system provides financial support to individuals who have lost their jobs and are actively seeking new employment. The rates for these contributions are set by law and can be adjusted annually. Employees contribute a percentage of their gross wages, while employers pay a slightly higher percentage based on their employee's gross wages. These payments are collected by the Estonian Tax and Customs Board and are administered by the Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund (Töötukassa). The purpose of these mandatory payments is to ensure a safety net for workers during periods of unemployment, helping them to cover basic living expenses while they search for a new job. Eligibility for unemployment benefits is dependent on having paid these contributions for a specific period prior to becoming unemployed. The system aims to mitigate the economic and social impact of job loss.
