Transmissionsformen refers to the ways in which infectious agents are passed from one host to another. These modes of transmission are crucial for understanding the spread of diseases and implementing effective control measures. Direct transmission occurs when there is physical contact between an infected person or animal and a susceptible host. This can include touching, kissing, or sexual intercourse. Indirect transmission involves an intermediary. Vehicles of indirect transmission include contaminated objects (fomites) such as doorknobs or utensils, contaminated food or water, or airborne transmission where infectious agents remain suspended in the air for extended periods and can travel long distances. Vectors, such as mosquitoes or ticks, also play a role in indirect transmission by carrying pathogens from one host to another.

For instance, diseases spread through direct contact may be controlled by hand hygiene and avoiding close personal contact, while airborne diseases require ventilation and respiratory protection.
