Tillståndsbutik

These stores are operated by the state-owned company Systembolaget. The primary purpose of the Tillståndsbutik system is to control the sale of alcohol in Sweden, aiming to reduce alcohol-related harm by regulating availability and setting an example for responsible consumption.

The selection of products in a Tillståndsbutik is limited to alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, and spirits, as well as non-alcoholic alternatives. Customers must be of legal age, which is 20 years old, to purchase alcohol from these stores. Systembolaget also provides information and advice on alcohol consumption and its effects. The stores are subject to strict regulations regarding their operating hours and the display of alcohol products. This state monopoly on alcohol retail is a cornerstone of Sweden's public health policy regarding alcohol.
