Süsihappegaasideks

Süsihappegaasideks is the Estonian term for greenhouse gases. These are gases in Earth's atmosphere that trap heat. They allow sunlight to pass through the atmosphere and reach the Earth's surface, but they prevent some of the infrared radiation from the Earth from escaping back into space. This process is known as the greenhouse effect, and it is essential for maintaining a habitable temperature on Earth.

The primary greenhouse gases are water vapor (H₂O), carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), nitrous oxide (N₂O), and ozone (O₃). Human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas, have significantly increased the concentration of carbon dioxide and methane in the atmosphere since the Industrial Revolution. Deforestation also contributes to increased carbon dioxide levels, as trees absorb CO₂ during photosynthesis.

Elevated levels of these gases lead to a stronger greenhouse effect, causing global warming and climate change. This can result in rising sea levels, more frequent and intense heatwaves, changes in precipitation patterns, and other environmental disruptions. Scientists are actively researching ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the impacts of climate change. International agreements and national policies aim to limit emissions and promote the use of renewable energy sources.
