Synctieel

Synctieel is a term that refers to a specific stage in the development of the placenta in mammals. It is a multinucleated cellular structure formed by the fusion of individual cytotrophoblast cells. This fusion process results in a large, continuous cytoplasm containing many nuclei, a characteristic feature of the syncytiotrophoblast. The syncytiotrophoblast is the outermost layer of the placenta and plays a crucial role in nutrient and gas exchange between the mother and the fetus. It also produces essential hormones required for maintaining pregnancy. The formation of synctieel is a critical step in establishing an effective interface for maternal-fetal communication and support. This stage is typically observed after the initial proliferation of the trophoblast cells, which differentiate and then fuse to create this specialized tissue.
