Spänningsstabilitet refers to the ability of an electrical power system to maintain voltages at all buses within acceptable limits during and after disturbances. These disturbances can include sudden changes in load, generation, or faults within the network. Maintaining voltage stability is crucial for the reliable operation of the power system, as significant voltage deviations can lead to equipment damage, loss of synchronism in generators, and cascading failures.

The voltage at a particular point in the power system is influenced by the balance between reactive power generation and consumption. When load increases or generation decreases, reactive power demand can exceed supply, causing voltages to drop. If this drop becomes too severe, the system can enter a state of voltage instability, potentially leading to a blackout.

Power system operators monitor voltage levels and employ various control strategies to ensure stability.
