Sovtském

Sovetsk is a town located in Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia. It is situated on the Neman River, near the border with Lithuania. The town was originally founded in 1288 as a Prussian settlement. It was known as Tilsit during the German period.

Tilsit became part of Prussia and later Germany. It played a role in the Napoleonic Wars, with the Treaty of Tilsit signed there in 1807. Following World War II, the area was transferred to Soviet administration, and the town was renamed Sovetsk in 1946.

Today, Sovetsk is an administrative center within Kaliningrad Oblast. The town's economy is based on industry and trade. It retains some historical architecture from its German past, though much was affected by the war. The Neman River remains a significant geographical feature and influences the local landscape and economy. Sovetsk is one of the larger settlements in the Kaliningrad Oblast outside of the regional capital. Its strategic location near the border continues to be a notable aspect of the town's identity.
