Sophonisba
Sophonisba was a queen of Carthage, known for her role in the Punic Wars. She was the daughter of Hamilcar Barca and the sister of Hannibal. After her father's death in 228 BC, Sophonisba became the queen of Carthage, ruling alongside her brother. She was known for her intelligence, military prowess, and political acumen. Sophonisba played a significant role in the defense of Carthage during the Second Punic War. She is particularly remembered for her leadership during the siege of Carthage by Scipio Africanus in 203 BC. Despite the city's eventual fall, Sophonisba's resistance and the city's defense were notable. After the fall of Carthage, Sophonisba was taken captive by Scipio. Her fate after her capture is not well-documented, but it is believed that she was either killed or died of natural causes in captivity. Sophonisba's legacy is that of a strong and resilient leader, whose actions and decisions had a significant impact on the outcome of the Second Punic War.
