Skilyrðisliðir are a grammatical concept in Icelandic, referring to conditional clauses. These clauses express a condition that must be met for another action or state to occur. They are typically introduced by conjunctions such as "ef" (if) or "nema" (unless).

A common structure involves two clauses: the conditional clause and the main clause. For example, "Ef veðrið er gott, förum við í gönguferð" (If the weather is good, we will go for a walk). Here, "Ef veðrið er gott" is the skilyrðisliður, and "förum við í gönguferð" is the main clause. The main clause's action is dependent on the condition set in the skilyrðisliður.

Skilyrðisliðir can also appear at the beginning of a sentence, as shown in the previous example, or they can follow the main clause. When the conditional clause follows the main clause, the word order in the main clause might change slightly to avoid repetition. For instance, "Við förum í gönguferð, ef veðrið er gott."

The tense and mood used in skilyrðisliðir can vary depending on the nature of the condition. Hypothetical or unlikely conditions might employ the subjunctive mood.
