Schaumlöschgerät

A Schaumlöschgerät is a type of fire extinguisher that uses foam to suppress flames. These devices are particularly effective against Class A fires (ordinary combustibles like wood and paper) and Class B fires (flammable liquids like gasoline and oil). The foam works by creating a barrier that smothers the fire, preventing oxygen from reaching the fuel source, and also by cooling the burning material.

Schaumlöschgeräte typically consist of a cylindrical tank containing a foam concentrate and an expelling agent, usually water or compressed air. When the extinguisher is activated, the expelling agent forces the water and foam concentrate through a nozzle, where they are mixed and aerated to create the foam. The foam is then discharged onto the fire. Different types of foam concentrates exist, each designed for specific fire classes and conditions.
