Sangamam
Sangamam, also known as the Sangam literature, is a collection of ancient Tamil literary works from South India, dating back to around the 3rd century BCE. The term "Sangamam" refers to the assembly of poets and scholars who compiled and preserved these works. The literature is divided into three categories: Ettutokai (love poetry), Pattupattu (heroic poetry), and Aattupattu (moral and didactic poetry). The Sangamam is significant for its contributions to Tamil language, literature, and culture, and it provides valuable insights into the social, political, and religious life of ancient Tamil Nadu. The works are known for their rich imagery, metaphors, and philosophical depth, and they continue to be studied and appreciated for their literary merit and historical importance. The Sangamam is considered one of the earliest examples of classical Tamil literature and has had a lasting influence on Tamil language and culture.
