STS31

STS-31 was the eighth mission of the Space Shuttle Discovery. The primary objective of this mission was to deploy the Hubble Space Telescope. The crew consisted of five astronauts: Commander Loren J. Shriver, Pilot Charles F. Bolden Jr., and Mission Specialists Bruce E. Melnick, Steven A. Hawley, and Kathy D. Sullivan. The mission launched on April 24, 1990, from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

During the mission, the crew successfully deployed the Hubble Space Telescope into orbit. The telescope was released on April 25, 1990. The astronauts also conducted several experiments and performed spacewalks to test equipment and procedures for future missions. The mission lasted for five days, two hours, and 49 minutes. Discovery landed at Edwards Air Force Base in California on April 29, 1990. STS-31 was a significant mission in space exploration history, marking a major milestone in astronomical observation.
