STS-31 was the eighth mission of the Space Shuttle Discovery. The primary objective of this mission was to deploy the Hubble Space Telescope. The crew consisted of five astronauts: Commander Loren J. Shriver, Pilot Charles F. Bolden Jr., and Mission Specialists Bruce E. Melnick, Steven A. Hawley, and Kathy D. Sullivan. The mission launched on April 24, 1990, from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
