Regierungsbezirken

Regierungsbezirk is an administrative division in Germany, roughly equivalent to a government district or administrative region. These districts are a middle tier of administration, existing between the federal states (Bundesländer) and the local districts (Landkreise) or independent cities (kreisfreie Städte). Not all German federal states have Regierungsbezirke. Currently, the states of Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Baden-Württemberg are divided into these administrative units. Other states have chosen to abolish them or have never established them.

The primary function of a Regierungsbezirk is to oversee and coordinate administrative tasks delegated by the state government. This includes areas such as public safety, environmental protection, education, and economic development. Each Regierungsbezirk is headed by a Regierung, which is led by a Regierungspräsident (President of the Government).
