Portakal
Portakal is the Turkish word for the orange fruit. In Turkish usage, portakal refers specifically to Citrus sinensis—the sweet orange—and is used for the fruit, its juice, and related products. Common compound phrases include portakal suyu (orange juice), portakal kabuğu (orange peel), portakal reçeli (orange marmalade), and portakal aroması (orange aroma). The color orange is usually described in Turkish as turuncu; however, portakal is sometimes used in a figurative or descriptive sense in phrases such as “portakal rengi” to evoke the fruit’s hue.
