Piva

Piva is the name of a river in western Montenegro. The river rises in the Dinaric Alps and flows through the Plužine municipality, forming a deep canyon known as the Piva Canyon. The area around the river is noted for rugged scenery and clear water, and the river is part of the region’s hydrology and natural landscape.

In the 20th century, the Mratinje Dam was constructed on the Piva River, creating Lake Piva, a reservoir used for hydroelectric power generation as well as tourism. The lake and its surrounding canyon are popular for boating, hiking, and sightseeing, contributing to the local economy and regional biodiversity.
