Other hormones produced include somatostatin, which regulates the release of other hormones, and pancreatic polypeptide, which helps regulate pancreatic secretion and gastric emptying.

For example, insufficient exocrine secretion can cause malabsorption and malnutrition, while problems with insulin production lead to diabetes mellitus.
