Pankréasban

Pankréasban refers to the pancreas, a gland located in the abdomen. It plays a crucial role in both digestion and hormone production. The pancreas is situated behind the stomach and is about 6 inches long. It is divided into three parts: the head, the body, and the tail.

As an exocrine gland, the pancreas produces digestive enzymes that are secreted into the small intestine. These enzymes, including amylase, lipase, and proteases, break down carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, respectively, enabling their absorption by the body. This digestive function is essential for nutrient assimilation.

In its endocrine capacity, the pancreas contains clusters of cells known as the islets of Langerhans. These cells produce vital hormones, most notably insulin and glucagon. Insulin lowers blood glucose levels by facilitating glucose uptake into cells, while glucagon raises blood glucose levels by stimulating the liver to release stored glucose. The balance of these hormones is critical for maintaining stable blood sugar. Disruptions to pancreatic function can lead to conditions like diabetes mellitus, characterized by difficulties in regulating blood glucose.
