OECDLeitsätze

The OECDLeitsätze, or OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, are recommendations jointly adopted by governments of adhering countries. They are voluntary principles and standards for responsible business conduct in a variety of areas, including employment and industrial relations, human rights, environment, combating bribery, consumer interests, science, technology and innovation, and competition. The OECDLeitsätze are designed to promote the positive contribution that multinational enterprises can make to economic, environmental, and social progress, while also mitigating the adverse impacts that can arise from their operations.

The guidelines are addressed to governments, which are responsible for their promotion and implementation within their territories. They also provide a framework for companies to operate responsibly. The OECDLeitsätze are not legally binding, but they carry the weight of governmental commitment. Adhering countries are expected to establish National Contact Points (NCPs) to help resolve disputes that may arise when companies are alleged to have breached the guidelines. These NCPs act as mediators and facilitators, aiming to find mutually agreeable solutions. The OECDLeitsätze are periodically reviewed and updated to reflect evolving global challenges and best practices in corporate responsibility.
