Naglfari

Naglfari is a figure in Norse mythology, appearing primarily in the Poetic Edda, specifically in the poem Vafþrúðnismál. He is the father of the god Loki. In Vafþrúðnismál, the giant Vafþrúðnir taunts Odin, stating that Naglfari is Loki's father and that Laufey is his mother. This brief mention is one of the few sources that names Loki's father.

Beyond this single mention, there is very little information available about Naglfari in the surviving Norse mythological texts. He does not feature in any significant narratives or possess any discernible attributes or exploits of his own. His primary role in the mythology is solely as the paternal progenitor of Loki.

The name Naglfari itself is sometimes interpreted as relating to "Naglfar," the ship made from the fingernails of the dead, which plays a role in Ragnarök. However, the direct connection or etymological link between Naglfari and the ship is not explicitly stated in the myths. The figure of Naglfari remains enigmatic, serving mainly to establish Loki's lineage within the divine pantheon.
