Multipotentní

Multipotentní is a term used in biology, particularly in the study of stem cells, to describe cells that have the potential to differentiate into a limited range of cell types. Unlike pluripotent stem cells, which can become any cell type in the body, or unipotentent cells, which can only become one specific cell type, multipotent cells are restricted to a particular lineage or tissue type. For example, hematopoietic stem cells are multipotent and can differentiate into all types of blood cells, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Similarly, mesenchymal stem cells are multipotent and can differentiate into bone cells, cartilage cells, and fat cells. This characteristic makes multipotent stem cells important for tissue repair and regeneration. Their ability to produce a specific set of related cell types allows for the replenishment and maintenance of specialized tissues throughout an organism's life.
