Molekulatömegével refers to the mass of a molecule. It is typically expressed in atomic mass units (amu or u). The molecular mass of a compound is the sum of the atomic masses of all the atoms in a molecule of that compound. For example, the molecular mass of water (H2O) is calculated by adding the atomic mass of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. Hydrogen has an atomic mass of approximately 1.008 amu, and oxygen has an atomic mass of approximately 15.999 amu. Therefore, the molecular mass of water is approximately (2 x 1.008) + 15.999 = 18.015 amu. This value is crucial in chemistry for stoichiometric calculations, determining reaction yields, and understanding the physical properties of substances. It is distinct from molar mass, which is the mass of one mole of a substance and is expressed in grams per mole (g/mol). While numerically similar to molecular mass, molar mass is a macroscopic property related to a large collection of molecules, whereas molecular mass pertains to a single molecule. The accurate determination of molecular mass is often achieved through techniques like mass spectrometry.
