Mediusminimus

Mediusminimus is not a term used for a distinct muscle in standard human anatomy. It does not designate a recognized muscle in the Terminologia Anatomica or current anatomical references. In some informal sources, “mediusminimus” may be a misspelling, a shorthand for gluteus medius or gluteus minimus, or a nonstandard amalgamation of the two muscles.

Gluteus medius is a fan-shaped muscle located on the lateral aspect of the pelvis. It originates from the outer surface of the ilium, roughly between the iliac crest and the posterior and anterior gluteal lines, and inserts on the superior and lateral aspects of the greater trochanter. It is innervated by the superior gluteal nerve (L4–S1). Its primary actions are abduction of the thigh, medial rotation, and stabilization of the pelvis during single-leg weight bearing.

Gluteus minimus lies deep to the gluteus medius. It originates from the outer ilium between the inferior and anterior gluteal lines and inserts on the anterior facet of the greater trochanter. It shares the same superior gluteal nerve supply. Its actions include thigh abduction, medial rotation, and contributing to pelvic stability.

Clinical relevance centers on the function of these muscles as hip abductors. Weakness or injury can lead to gait abnormalities such as a Trendelenburg pattern, and improper injections in the buttock region can risk injury to nearby nerves and vessels.
