The M1917 is a designation given to several distinct pieces of military equipment developed by the United States in 1917. The most prominent is the M1917 Browning machine gun, a water-cooled .30 caliber machine gun developed by John Browning. It was based on an earlier design but was significantly improved for mass production and adopted by the U.S. Army during World War I.
