Mätstiftet

Mätstiftet, translated as the measuring pin, is a precision cylindrical pin used as a gauge in metrology and machining. It functions as a reference to check hole diameters, to set tools, and to check the accuracy of measuring instruments. Gauging pins are manufactured to precise diameters and tolerances and are typically made from hardened steel or stainless steel to resist wear.

Construction and types: They are available as plain gauge pins of a fixed diameter and length, as well as stepped or tapered variants that can measure multiple diameters or depths. They can be ground or turned, with high-precision diameters verified by calibration. Some pins have chamfered ends or ends polished to a known finish.

Usage: For hole inspection, pins are inserted into a hole to check fit; go/no-go gauging uses one or more pins to determine whether the hole is within tolerance. They serve as reference standards for bore gauges, micrometers, CMMs, and setting fixtures. When used in sets, pins cover a range of common hole sizes.

Quality and maintenance: Mätstiftet are manufactured with traceability to standards and come with tolerance classes. They should be handled with care, kept clean from oil and dust, stored in protective cases, and periodically inspected or recalibrated. Erroneous pins are replaced to maintain measurement integrity.
