Lagrange points, also known as libration points, are positions in an orbital configuration of two large bodies where a small object affected only by gravity can maintain a stable position relative to the two larger bodies. These points were discovered by the Italian-French mathematician Joseph-Louis Lagrange in 1772. There are five such points in the Sun-Earth system, labeled L1 through L5.
