Kyynelpussin
Kyynelpussin, also known as the lacrimal sac, is a small, thin-walled pouch located in the medial canthus of the eye. It is an integral part of the lacrimal apparatus, responsible for draining tears from the eye's surface into the nasal cavity. The lacrimal sac collects tears from the canaliculi, which are tiny tubes that originate from the lacrimal puncta, small openings at the inner corner of the eyelids. From the lacrimal sac, tears then flow down into the nasolacrimal duct, eventually emptying into the inferior meatus of the nasal cavity. This continuous drainage prevents the accumulation of tears on the ocular surface and aids in maintaining ocular hygiene. Inflammation or blockage of the lacrimal sac can lead to dacryocystitis, a condition characterized by pain, swelling, redness, and discharge from the inner corner of the eye. In severe cases, dacryocystitis can result in the formation of an abscess. The lacrimal sac's primary function is crucial for the proper functioning and health of the eye.
