Kysymyspronominit

Kysymyspronominit, or interrogative pronouns in English, are words used in Finnish to ask questions. They introduce interrogative clauses and stand in for the unknown person, thing, or quality that the question is seeking information about. The most common kysymyspronominit include kuka, mikä, and kumpi.

Kuka is used to ask about people. For example, "Kuka tuli?" means "Who came?". It declines according to case and number, just like other Finnish nouns. "Kenen?" (whose?), "Ketä?" (whom?), and "Kenelle?" (to whom?) are some of its forms.

Mikä is used to ask about things or abstract concepts. For instance, "Mikä se on?" translates to "What is it?". Similar to kuka, mikä also inflects for case and number. Common forms include "Minkä?" (of what?), "Mitä?" (what?), and "Mihin?" (into what?).

Kumpi is a less common interrogative pronoun, used specifically to ask about a choice between two things or people. It means "which one?". For example, "Kumpi on parempi?" means "Which one is better?". It also declines.

Other words can function interrogatively, such as "missä" (where), "milloin" (when), and "miksi" (why), though these are technically interrogative adverbs. Kysymyspronominit are essential tools for forming questions in Finnish and are fundamental to everyday communication.
