Karburaatorit

Karburaatorid are mechanical devices used in internal combustion engines to mix air and fuel in the correct proportion for combustion. They are a crucial component in many gasoline-powered engines, particularly older ones. The primary function of a carburetor is to atomize liquid fuel and deliver it to the engine's intake manifold as a combustible vapor.

The process typically involves a venturi, a constricted section within the carburetor. As air is drawn through the venturi by the engine's suction, its velocity increases, causing a drop in pressure. This low-pressure area draws fuel from a float bowl, which maintains a constant fuel level. The fuel then enters the airstream, where it is atomized and mixed.

Various circuits within a carburetor control the air-fuel mixture under different operating conditions. These can include idle circuits, main metering circuits, acceleration pumps, and choke mechanisms. The choke restricts airflow, creating a richer fuel-air mixture needed for cold starts. Over time, carburetors have largely been replaced by more precise fuel injection systems in modern vehicles, but they remain common in older cars, motorcycles, small engines, and some specialized applications.
