Kapillaarientsentti
Kapillaarientsentti refers to the capillary action experienced by a liquid within a very narrow tube or porous material. This phenomenon is driven by the cohesive forces between liquid molecules and the adhesive forces between the liquid and the surface of the tube. When the adhesive forces are stronger than the cohesive forces, the liquid "wets" the surface and is drawn upwards against gravity. The narrower the capillary, the higher the liquid will rise.
This principle is observable in everyday life, such as how water is drawn up by the roots
