Interfalangealled

Interfalangealled is a term used to describe the region or joint located between two adjacent phalanges. Phalanges are the bones that make up the fingers and toes. Therefore, interfalangealled refers specifically to the joints between these small bones. For example, in a finger, there are usually three phalanges: the proximal phalanx, the middle phalanx, and the distal phalanx. The joints between the proximal and middle phalanges are called proximal interphalangeal joints, and the joints between the middle and distal phalanges are called distal interphalangeal joints. Similarly, in the toes, there are proximal and distal interphalangeal joints, although the big toe typically has only two phalanges and thus only one interphalangeal joint. These joints allow for the bending and extension of the fingers and toes, which are crucial for a wide range of movements such as grasping, writing, and walking. Conditions affecting these joints can lead to pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility.
