Insular Anglo-Saxon refers to the Old English language as it was spoken and written in Britain from roughly the 5th to the 12th century. This period encompasses the arrival of Anglo-Saxon settlers in Britain, the development of various regional dialects, and the influence of Latin and Old Norse. Insular Anglo-Saxon is the ancestor of modern English, and its study is crucial for understanding the evolution of the English language and the history of England.
