Immuunisäiliöiden
Immuunisäiliöiden, or immune reservoirs, are hidden sanctuaries within the body where pathogens, particularly viruses like HIV, can persist and evade the immune system's attacks. These reservoirs are established early in the infection and act as a persistent source of viral replication, even when antiretroviral therapy (ART) is being administered. The primary sites for these reservoirs are believed to be long-lived immune cells, such as resting memory CD4+ T cells, and certain tissues like lymphoid organs and the central nervous system.
The existence of these immuunisäiliöiden poses a significant challenge to achieving a cure for chronic viral
