IL1RI

IL1RI, also known as the Interleukin-1 Receptor Type I, is a transmembrane protein that serves as the primary receptor for interleukin-1 (IL-1) cytokines. These cytokines, particularly IL-1 alpha and IL-1 beta, are key players in the body's immune response and inflammatory processes. When IL-1 binds to IL1RI, it initiates a signaling cascade within the cell, ultimately leading to changes in gene expression that promote inflammation, immune cell activation, and tissue repair.

IL1RI is found on the surface of various cell types, including immune cells like T cells, B cells, and macrophages, as well as non-immune cells such as fibroblasts and endothelial cells. The interaction between IL-1 and IL1RI is crucial for regulating a wide range of physiological and pathological conditions. In normal immune responses, it helps to coordinate the fight against infection. However, dysregulation of IL-1 signaling through IL1RI can contribute to chronic inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and psoriasis. Consequently, IL1RI has become a target for therapeutic interventions aimed at modulating inflammatory responses.
